Miss Linss' Life

My mother was Merriweather Post, the only daughter of the Post cereal family. She was one of the richest women in the world. She was also a good business woman. A wonderful duck dish was served on her ship, she asked where it came from and found out that it was frozen by Charles Birdseye. Although her financier husband, E. F. Hutton, was not for the idea, she had controlling interest in Post, so he purchased Birdseye food and changed the Post company to General Foods. The end result was that the company prospered magnificently, but my parents got divorced. Dad couldn’t handle Mom knowing more about business than him.

Household Chores

Our houses and our boat went to mom in the divorce settlement. We lived at Maralago often. Here I am setting the table.

Mar-a-Largo

Our little house was featured on a local news network recently. This is the video of them flying over the yard.

Sea Cloud

We spent a large part of the year traveling the world on our boat, the Sea Cloud.

Russian Connection

We went to the Galapagos Islands, before they became famous. We were able to play with all the animals, especially the sea turtles. When we went to Russia, the new communists did not value their historical artifacts, so mom collected a lot of artwork, including Faberge eggs.

Navy is Grateful

During World War II, mom was very generous in helping the American forces. She rented our boat for $1 a year. She also outfitted a cargo boat with supplies. Unfortunately, it sank shortly after it was launched, so she wrote a check for another boat full of supplies. The military was very grateful to her.

Submarine service

I was serving as a nurse in the Navy during World War II. I served for a short while on a submarine. Two of the top officers and I had a number of conflicts over what they saw as my clumsiness. Their official complaints were registered before the Captain realized that a lot of the problems were because he was denying that he had fallen in love with me.
